How to Make Your Computer Faster?

It is not only frustrating but also disturbing when your computer is running slower than expected. Here are a few steps that you can follow to make your computer faster.

Free Hard Disk space to speed up PC

It's a good rule of thumb to keep your hard disk at least 15% free. If your PC hard disk is almost full, you can remove some programs and files to free up space.
Windows users : OS built-in disk cleanup can be used to remove unused system and windows backup files. Right click on C: drive > Properties > Disk Cleanup

Mac: Download CCleaner to find and delete temporary files on your hard disk.

Uninstall unnecessary programs to make PC faster

Unused and rarely used programs should be removed to speed up PC.
Mac: Uninstall manually by dragging apps into the trash. You can also download programs to help you sort and delete programs.
Windows : Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs/Uninstall a Program. This will show a master list of all programs installed. For unfamiliar programs, right-click and choose Last Used On to see how frequently you use the program.

Stop unnecessary programs during start-up

When you start your PC, you will find that some unnecessary programs begin to initialize. Prevent this from happening by making sure programs don't start at start-up process.
Mac: From the Apple Menu, go to System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items. Choose programs you’d like to prevent from opening automatically and click the minus sign (-) to remove them.
Windows : Open the Start Menu and run a search for "msconfig." Choose Start-up to see a list of all programs that run when you boot up your computer and uncheck anything unnecessary.

Delete Internet browsing history

Web browsers keep track of your past activity for good reasons but it's a good practice to delete browsing history either for all time or specific time. Most internet browsers have a history where they list full browsing history. Browser history might contain sluggish spyware and large cache.

Get rid of unused Languages

Remove unused languages to free up some computer operating space. It can be done manually but I recommend a program or application that can do this for you.
Windows :Open the Settings app > Time & Language > Language > Windows Display Language > Select the Language you want and set as the Default Language. Select Remove a language to free space on your Windows system.

Turn off indexing in Windows for better performance

Windows search can cause a PC to run slow. Follow the below steps to disable Windows search indexing completely :

1. Tap on the Windows-key, type services.
2. Locate Windows search from the services listing.
3. Right-click on Windows Search and select properties from the menu.
4. Stop the service if already running then select the startup type to "disabled".
